Doina Falcon is a Canadian artist, located in Montreal. Though she is an engineer by trade, she has loved the arts from early childhood. In her youth, she studied arts for 4 years with the well-known Montrealer sculptor, Octavian Olariu.
All her life she wanted to make time for painting, but only in 2005 was she able to dedicate more time to her art, and engage in more formal training, studying for 2 years different painting techniques.
She is painting in acrylic, oil and mixed media in an abstract expressionism style.
Her art is spontaneous, reflecting an interior world bursting of energy. Since a child she was full of energy, sometimes tiring out her parents and grandparents with her endless movement. This energy never left her. Her art is spontaneous, either a reflection of the outside world in herself, or a complete explosion of the imagination. Her creative process is an ongoing journey; an inspiring moment: images mixed with impressions of movements, transitions, journeys; landscapes and flowers, imbued with colors, lights and shadows, perfumes and music; allegorical representations of certain philosophical ideas which make her meditate, or of different characters (imaginary or real) who have imprinted their marks on her. In front of the canvas, the creative process becomes fluid, even if it takes time for her to be satisfied. It is an evolutionary process, the canvas changes continuously, sometimes transforming dramatically until the final version satisfies the soul and the eyes.
To Doina, the painting process is an act of creation, a happy experience. It is a meditation, a process of complete concentration. Her creations are diverse, often using spatula, she likes to be guided by spontaneous gestures and experiences; Doina tries different combinations of colors, textures and supports: oil, acrylic and pastel, with mixed techniques: paper, leaves, sand, flowers, modeling paste, on canvas, wood or paper. This approach best captures the spontaneity of the emotion, the authentic quality of the feeling.
Doina's desire is to bring the spectators to take advantage of the present moment, by offering them through her creation, access to glimpses of her imagination, or to her interior mirror which reflects external reality.
A great admirer of the human body, she also participates in drawing sessions with live models.
Doina is a member of “The Artists’ Circle of the West Island", of “ARTTRAM” (the Mont-Royal group of artists), and of "The Beaconsfield Artists' Association".
Over the years, she has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions.
Her paintings can be found in private collections from North America, Europe, Scandinavia, India and Israel.
Doina Falcon’s paintings have the same coherent vision of art, very well expressed by the words of Marc Chagall, her favorite artist :
« Art must be an expression of love or it is nothing! »'
