Doina Falcon is a Canadian artist, living in Montreal. Born in Bucharest, Romania, Doina has been influenced in her childhood by Octavian Olariu, a renowned Montreal sculptor, that as a teacher sowed in her soul, the seed of her passion for arts. She loved arts and mathematics, so she chose to study Automation and Computer Science which she completed with a Master's degree. She left Romania in 1984, choosing a new life in Canada. As a career, she worked as a software engineer all her life. In 2005 after studying oil painting for two years, she just started following her dream, painting regularly.
Over the years, she has continued to perfect her techniques, taking several painting classes and participating in workshops. Doina paints in acrylic, oil, ink and alcohol, charcoal and mixed media and lately watercolor, mainly abstract expressionism.
Her art is spontaneous, reflecting an interior world bursting of energy, either a reflection of the outside world in herself, or a complete explosion of the imagination. Her creative process is an ongoing journey; an inspiring moment: images mixed with impressions of movements, transitions, journeys; landscapes and flowers, imbued with colors, lights and shadows, perfumes and music; allegorical representations of certain philosophical ideas which make her meditate, or of different characters (imaginary or real) who have imprinted their marks on her. To Doina, the painting process is an act of creation, a happy experience. It is a meditation, a process of total concentration. Her subjects are diverse, landscapes inspired by her travels, self-seeking experiences, the study of the world of humans, animals, plants or of the imagination. She likes to work with palette knives using successive layers of paint, various textures through the use of materials like modeling paste, silk paper, sand, elements of nature like leaves or ossified algae, recyclable materials, superimposing them with color strokes, being guided by a spontaneous gesture and experience. Doina's desire is to bring the viewers to enjoy the present moment through her art.
